Obituary for Florence G. Cocanig (Cebrat)

Florence Cocanig of Orland Park IL passed away peacefully at her home on July 3rd, 2022, after a beautiful and fruitful life journey that unfolded over 90 years.

Florence Genevieve Cebrat was born on October 6, 1931, to Frank Cebrat and Agnes Wontroba. She and her three sisters grew up on the near westside of Chicago.

As a teen-ager, Florence began attending dances at the Falcon Dance Hall where she met Robert (Bob) Cocanig. They both graduated from Harrison High School in the early 1950s and married in 1955 after Bob’s discharge from the Army.

Florence and Bob raised three children. Over the years, they lived in a variety of apartments from the westside to the west suburbs and finally to Orland Park. Florence loved all family get-togethers especially ones held during the holidays. She and her sisters spent long hours preparing for annual Christmas parties.

At the time of her passing, Florence and Bob had been married for 67 years. Florence is survived by her loving husband Bob; sister Stephanie (the late Jim) Menotti; son Gregory (Patty) Cocanig; daughter Cheryl (George) Rousek; son Robert (Mike) Cocanig; five grandsons; seven great grandchildren; and an extended family of nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Frances (the late John) Mnichowicz; and her sister Antoinette (the late Frank) Santapa.

A Visitation will take place on Thursday July 7th, 2022, from 3pm to 8pm at Lawn Funeral Home 7732 W 159th Street, Orland Park, IL. Flowers may be sent directly to Lawn Funeral Home.
