Frances Alberta Wardingley Benck (nee Rovello) gained her angel wings on December 1, 2022 in Orland Park, IL. Alberta (Birdie) was 96 years old. Many of us have been touched by Alberta's life and her existence has left an imprint on our hearts. Alberta’s life began as a daughter who became a sister, wife, mother, grandmother (Granny), and finally a great-grandmother. Alberta raised her children while singing big band and piano tunes, old-time church songs, country western, and blues every day depending on the task at hand. Alberta was a talented artist, which was evidenced by sketches of Roaring 20’s Ladies on any piece of paper she could find. She was also a talented seamstress and one of the most avid readers; even resorting to reading all of the encyclopedias when she ran out of unread books. She was quite an unforgettable character. Alberta is survived by her children, David (Debbi) Wardingley, Karen L. Acklin, Pamela (Joseph) Nichols, Connie (Hagie) Turner, Gerhardt J. (Donna) Benck, Jr., and Kathleen Calomino; and her grandchildren, Carrie Frantzen, James (Rose) O’Leary, Sarah Benck, Tristin (Dino) Toures, Gerhardt J. Benck, III, Alissa (Rick) Schneider, Anthony (Shauna) Calomino, Katie (John) Sweezey and Samantha Benck. Alberta is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Kayla Gawlik, Rylan O’Leary, Kyle Gawlik, Kolby Gawlik, Lucciano Blandino, Julian O’Leary, Jacob O’Leary, MaKayla Harvey, Michael Calomino, Hannah Calomino, Gemma Schneider, Josephine Schneider, and Brooks Sweezey. Alberta was predeceased by her husband, Gerhardt J. Benck, Sr., her parents, Constantine Rovello and Emmalena Mattock, her brother, Vernon (Nelma) Long, and her sister, Patsy (Matthew) Insalaco. Alberta’s wake will be held at Lawn Funeral Home, 7732 W. 159th St., Orland Park, IL 60462 [708.429.3200] on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 from 9:00am to 11:00am. Lutheran Service will be at the Funeral Home from 11:00am to 11:30am. Burial and prayers will immediately follow the service and be held at First Lutheran Evangelical Cemetery, 4135 W. 127th St., Alsip, IL 60803. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of the following causes that Alberta continually supported: Paralyzed Veterans of America and St. Joseph’s Indian School. Repast will be immediately following the burial with location to be announced.
