Obituary for Josephine Ann "Joanne" Follenweider

On April 29, 2022, Josephine Ann (Joanne) Follenweider (nee Deacy) was called to heaven. Joanne was born to Patrick and Mary Deacy of County Mayo, Ireland. Her beloved husband, Arthur Monroe Follenweider proceeded her in death. Joanne is the loving mother of Mary Schroeder, Laura (Michael) DeGroot, Arthur (Kathleen) Follenweider, Janet Dietz (Kenneth Schuch) and late David (Sophie) Follenweider. She is survived by her brother Jim (Grace) Deacy, sister-in-law late Tom (Carol) Deacy, brothers-in-law, late Jack (Kathleen) Follenweider and Rick (Mary) Follenweider. She is the cherished Nana of thirteen Grandchildren: Erin Schroeder, Matthew Schroeder, Heather (Evan) Eckerle, Dana DeGroot, Ashley Follenweider, Alexa Follenweider, Nicole Dietz, Brittany Dietz, Jason Dietz, David Follenweider, Rachel Follenweider, Patrick Follenweider, Christine Follenweider and Great Granddaughter Hailey Michl, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and very close friends. Joanne was a devoted mother who also worked alongside her husband at Swissland Packing Company. She held a variety of volunteer positions in local Catholic Churches and Schools. She was a member of the South Suburban Service League. As an enthusiastic member of Olympia Fields Country Club, Joanne was a dedicated golfer, bridge player and gin rummy aficionado. She was a great entertainer, wonderful cook, loved good bakeries and made the best Irish Soda Bread ever. Joanne’s grandchildren consider her a real life hero as she always offered them her beautiful smile, her fun unique sense of humor, her positive outlook, hours of Rummikub competitions and her willingness to share precious time in their lives. Family and friends are invited to Visitation on Wednesday, May 4th from 4:00-8:00 pm. Funeral Thursday, May 5th at 9:45 am from Lawn Funeral Home 17909 S. 94th Ave. Tinley Park, IL 60487 to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Mass 10:30 am. Interment Family Lot.
