Obituary for Michael Kurtyak Jr.
Michael Kurtyak, Jr., 73, formerly from Lockport, IL, passed away, Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey. He was born September 3, 1948, in Joliet, IL to Michael and Dorothy (Clift) Kurtyak. His parents preceded him in death. Surviving are his two sons, Michael Chris Kurtyak of Homer Glen and Sean (Michelle) Kurtyak of Downs, IL, their sons’ mother, Sigrid Johansen Aeschleman (Arnie) of Normal, IL, three grandsons, Ayden, Mason and Brady Kurtyak and one granddaughter, Ava Grace Kurtyak all of Downs, IL. Also surviving are one sister, Nancy Oreshack of Goodyear, AZ, one brother, Randy (Judy) Kurtyak of Richton Park, IL, five nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Mike served in the U.S. Army from 1971-73 at Kagnew Station, Asmara, Ethiopia. Upon his return, he was band director at Westview Middle School in Valley View C.U.S.D. 365-U and then Director of Bands at Bolingbrook High School for many years. He was an accomplished band director and teacher. Lawn Funeral Home in Orland Park, IL is in charge of arrangements. Cremation rites have been accorded.
