Obituary for Patricia Skudnig (Egan)

Patricia Skudnig (nee Egan) May 28, 1930 – April 30, 2021

Beloved mother of Robert (Elaine), Kathryn (Richard) Estabrook, Michael (Molly), John (Yuii) and Suzanne (Dave) Donovan. Dearest daughter of the late John and Kathryn Egan. Sister of the late John Egan Jr. (Jack). Devoted grandmother of Kathryn, Colleen and Robert Skudnig, Ian and Andrew Estabrook, Kate, Jane and Lucy Skudnig, and Patrick and Claire Skudnig.

Born in 1930 in Chicago, Patricia was a graduate of Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana (Class of 1952) and Worsham Mortuary School, Chicago (Class of 1955). She single handedly raised her five children in Beverly on the Southwest side of Chicago, while managing the family business, the Egan Funeral Home.

Her love of the lake led Pat and her parents to South Shore Country Club, where her wedding reception was held and where she took her family for many holiday celebrations and summers on the beach.

The closing of South Shore C.C. brought her to a club in her own backyard, Beverly Country Club, where she was the first female Social Member. Summers by the pool, swim team competitions, casual family dinners, holidays and eventually wedding receptions all took place at Beverly Country Club.

As a child, Pat spent many summers on the beach in Long Beach, Indiana, where she eventually bought a family summer home. She loved entertaining family and friends where beach time, outlet store shopping, football weekends, cooking and conversation were the heartbeat of the home.

Pat had a love of the arts, regularly attending the Chicago Symphony and the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. A devoted Notre Dame fan, Pat enjoyed 55 years of season tickets to Notre Dame Football. “Grandma Pat” was the first to teach her grandchildren the Notre Dame Fight Song! And despite her failing memory due to Alzheimer’s Disease, she was still able to sing the entire song at age 90.

Patricia led an extraordinary life and was an inspiration to all who knew her.
